Surrounded by splendid 17th-century palazzos, fountains, statues of saints and Spanish kings, Quattro Canti is also known as the Theatre of the Sun as sunlight is extraordinarily reflected from all sides of the square from dawn to dusk. A walk down Corso Vittorio Emanuele, beyond Piazza Bologni, will lead to the Cathedral of Palermo, dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin. Known as a monument of high architectural value, this cathedral contains valuable works and the remains of the brilliant Frederick II, the most famous king of the Normans. The Palace of the Normans is just a few minutes away.
