Rooms
The 175 guestrooms (renovated March 2007) are decorated to the high standard expected of a 4 star hotel. Although they vary in size, they are all medium to large in size and are modern, light and airy with soft neutral colours. The bathrooms have black and white and in very good condition, as are the bedrooms.
Restaurant
This hotel is famous for its Restaurant Café Americain which is where all meals are served. It is decorated in art deco style with high ceilings, a very large area with views of the Leidseplein. During summer months diners may eat outside. Tea and coffee and light snacks are also served here.
Exterior
The exterior of the hotel is art deco style with distinctive turrets.
Lobby
The lobby is medium in size with marble floor and a fairly modern theme, although the art deco for which this hotel is famous is still obvious. There is plenty of seating in attractive red or purple furniture. The bar is located next to the main reception area and is very popular with both hotel guests and local Amsterdammers. It is modern in design and overlooks the Leidseplein.
Location
Ideally situated at Leidseplein Square, the American Hotel has recently undergone a full refurbishment programme, upgrading this historic building to 4-star standard. Perfectly located for nightlife, museums, cinemas, theatres, cafes, restaurants and shopping, the hotel also features the strikingly decorated Art Deco "Cafe Americain
