Hotel Belmond Cadogan

5 Stars

  75 Sloane Street - SW1 9SG - London, United Kingdom View Map
Area: Kensington / South Kensington / Chelsea / Fulham

The Cadogan Hotel, built in 1887 in London's SW1, off Sloane Square, was soon to find itself at the heart of Victorian society's most infamous indiscretions. Within the walls of this most stately of West End London hotels, some of society's pre-eminent figures came together in a tumult of controversy. Society beauty, courtesan and actress Lillie Langtry lived at 21 Pont Street from 1892 to 1897. Even after she had sold the house, Lillie would stay in her old bedroom, by then a part of the hotel. It was at The Cadogan Hotel that Lillie would court Edward, the future King of England. Meanwhile, in 1895, Victorian society was rocked by the arrest of playwright Oscar Wilde at the hotel. The incident, in room 118, was immortalised by John Betjeman in his poem, "The Arrest of Oscar Wilde at the Cadogan Hotel" Today, there's a quieter rhythm to life at The Cadogan Hotel. The drawing room and inter-connecting private dining rooms smack of elegantly modernised Edwardian beauty. The hotel gardens offer a leafy and serene escape. The Cadogan sits apart from its homogenised West End contemporary hotels: a hotel noted for calm demeanour from an altogether more-genteel age. The Cadogan Hotel’s Luxury Hotel Suite Promotion is ideal for a leisurely luxury stay in London.

Restaurant

Let your appetite build as you explore Armani, Gucci or Harrods, or work out in our fitness studio, then let your taste buds loose at Langtry's, part of The Cadogan but a much-frequented luxurious SW1 Knightsbridge restaurant in itself. Slip in off Pont Street after a day's boutique-hopping or sightseeing and sit beneath striking original glass chandeliers and intricate ceiling designs. Start the day with a full British breakfast. Make your lunch an occasion. Or, in the evenings, light a candle with someone special and sip wine or brandy before the Carrera-marble Louis XIV fireplace. Feel the soft velvet of the warm, round medallion armchairs, and sample fine British dining London-style, in the elegant, yet informal, atmosphere. The setting, recalling the London banqueting and chic grandeur of Edwardian high society, is warm and intimate; the cuisine memorable. Head chef Oliver Lesnik adds imaginative ingredients to classic dishes that will have you salivating. The cheese is melted Hampshire Tunworth; the beef, Aberdeen Angus; the duck, Gressigham. It's a palate of flair and adventure that compares favourably with any of the top romantic London restaurants. Langtry's is open from 6.00pm Monday to Saturday; closed on Sunday evening.

Exterior

The Cadogan is an elegant townhouse hotel at the midpoint of two opulent worlds, in London's SW1, on Sloane Street, between Knightsbridge and Sloane Square. Located in the heart of London’s chic shopping area, guests exit onto Sloane Street, where Chaumet and Walter Steiger give way to Loro Piana and Prada, to Gucci and then Armani, as you make your way towards Knightsbridge. Once there, Harvey Nichols, Harrods and Peter Jones also jostle for your attention. The Cadogan Hotel sits, too, within a short stroll or London-bus ride of Buckingham Palace Green Park and the Natural History Museum. The Piccadilly line at Knightsbridge or the Circle and District lines at Sloane Square are all just five minutes' walk away.
